Functional Medicine Care for Women in Midlife

NP-led functional medicine care for women in Massachusetts and New Hampshire who want clarity about what deserves their attention now—and how their health today may shape the way they age.

Care at New England Functional Wellness begins with a comprehensive clinical assessment of your symptoms, history, risk factors, and relevant laboratory data. From there, we determine what we can address together, what may need further evaluation, and what level of support makes sense for you.

Better With Age Blueprint

A comprehensive starting point for your health in midlife.

The Better With Age Blueprint is the required starting point for care. In three focused visits, we uncover what’s actually driving your symptoms - from inflammation, metabolism, nutrient deficiencies, hormones to gut health - and then map out a clear, personalized blueprint so you’re no longer guessing.

What This Includes:

A comprehensive intake + root-cause symptom mapping

Comprehensive blood panel + functional lab interpretation

Clear clinical insight into why things have shifted

A guided health coaching session to translate insight into action and support implementation

A personalized plan, with next steps decided together

Best for you if:
You feel “off,” tired, foggy, or frustrated and want real answers before committing to ongoing care. We accept a limited number of Blueprint patients each month to ensure depth of care.

Better Brain Blueprint

Focused clarity when brain health is your primary concern.

The Better Brain Blueprint is designed for women concerned about memory or cognitive changes - or those with a family history of dementia who want to be proactive about their own brain health. We take a focused look at your cognitive health, relevant risk factors, and the broader clinical picture to determine what deserves your attention now.

What This Includes:
A comprehensive clinical + brain health assessment
Comprehensive blood panel + functional lab interpretation
A dedicated cognitive assessment screening
Evaluation of modifiable factors that may influence brain health
A guided health coaching session to support implementation

A personalized plan, with next steps decided together

Best for you if:
Memory, focus, cognitive changes, or a family history of dementia is the primary reason you’re seeking care—or you want a more focused assessment of your future brain health.

Better With Age Signature Plan

Deeper support when your Blueprint shows you need it.

For some women, the Blueprint provides everything needed to move forward independently. Others benefit from more intensive clinical support to implement recommendations, monitor progress, and adjust care over time.

Better With Age Signature Care is available to established patients following completion of a Blueprint when deeper support is appropriate.

Care may include ongoing NP visits, laboratory monitoring, treatment adjustments, medication or supplement guidance when appropriate, and health coaching to support implementation.

Ongoing Membership Options

Because your health doesn't stop changing when a program ends.

After completing a Blueprint or Signature Care, established patients may have the option to continue with ongoing care based on their individual needs.

Momentum provides more frequent clinical follow-up and support, while Sustain offers less frequent monitoring and longer-term oversight.

These options allow for continued clinical partnership as symptoms, labs, medications, priorities, and health goals evolve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to the most common questions women ask before working with Katie.

What is the difference between the Better With Age Blueprint and Better Brain Blueprint?

Both Blueprints provide a comprehensive clinical assessment, individualized laboratory testing and functional interpretation, and personalized recommendations. The Better With Age Blueprint is designed for women with broader midlife concerns such as energy, metabolism, hormones, sleep, digestion, or brain fog. The Better Brain Blueprint is designed for women whose primary concern is memory, cognitive changes, family history of dementia, or proactive brain health and includes dedicated cognitive assessment and standardized cognitive screening.

What labs do you run, and are they covered?

Blueprint care generally includes a comprehensive blood panel ordered through Quest and interpreted through a functional medicine lens. Testing may include metabolic markers, insulin and blood sugar, lipids, thyroid markers, nutrient status, inflammation, and other labs selected based on your individual history and concerns.

Blood testing is billed through insurance when possible, although coverage varies by plan. Specialty functional testing, such as DUTCH or GI-MAP, may be recommended when clinically appropriate but is not routinely required and is an additional out-of-pocket expense.

Do I need to have symptoms to work with you on brain health?

No. Some women seek care because they have noticed changes in memory, focus, or cognition. Others feel well but have watched a parent experience dementia or have a family history that makes them want to be proactive. The Better Brain Blueprint helps evaluate your current cognitive health, relevant risk factors, and the modifiable factors that may deserve attention now.

Do you take insurance?

New England Functional Wellness is a cash-pay functional medicine practice and does not bill insurance for clinical visits. This allows me to provide longer visits and individualized clinical care outside the constraints of an insurance-based visit.

Laboratory testing is generally ordered through Quest and billed through your insurance when possible. Coverage varies by individual plan. HSA/FSA funds may also be used for eligible services.

What happens after I complete a Blueprint or Signature Care?

A Blueprint is designed to stand on its own, and not every patient needs ongoing care. When additional support would be beneficial, established patients may continue into Better With Age Signature Care for more intensive implementation and follow-up.

After Signature Care, or when less frequent follow-up is appropriate, established patients may be offered an ongoing membership for continued clinical monitoring and support. We determine together what level of care, if any, makes sense next.

What makes New England Functional Wellness different from primary care or a one-time functional medicine consultation?

I bring nearly two decades of experience caring for older adults with chronic disease and cognitive decline to the work I now do with women in midlife. That gives me a different lens: I’m not only thinking about how you feel today, but about the health trajectory we may be able to influence over the years ahead.

As a board-certified nurse practitioner with advanced training in functional medicine, I provide clinical assessment, individualized laboratory testing and interpretation, treatment planning, monitoring, and referral when appropriate. The goal isn't more health information. It's clinical judgment about what actually matters for you—and what deserves your attention now.

Can functional medicine help with brain fog during perimenopause or menopause?

Brain fog, forgetfulness, sleep changes, fatigue, mood changes, and metabolic changes are common concerns during perimenopause and menopause, but that doesn't mean every symptom should automatically be attributed to hormones.

I evaluate factors that may be contributing, including metabolic health, sleep, thyroid function, nutrient status, stress, inflammation, medications, and hormonal changes. When cognitive symptoms warrant further medical evaluation, I’ll recommend that as well.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment options vary by service and may include pay-in-full or installment payments. HSA/FSA funds may also be used for eligible services. Available payment options are shown when you enroll.

Will I need a ton of supplements?

No. Supplements may be helpful when they are targeted and clinically appropriate, but they are not the center of your care plan. We prioritize the factors most relevant to your health—such as metabolic health, nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, and other identified clinical needs—and use supplements selectively when they may add value.

Where is your practice located?

New England Functional Wellness is a telehealth functional medicine practice serving women throughout Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I am licensed to practice in both states, and all patient visits are conducted virtually through a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform. I work with women virtually across both states, including Boston, Cape Cod, the South Shore, MetroWest, and Western MA, as well as the Seacoast, Lakes Region, and White Mountains of NH,  through a secure telehealth, HIPAA-compliant platform.

Do I need a primary care provider if I work with New England Functional Wellness?

Yes. New England Functional Wellness provides specialized functional medicine care and does not replace primary care. Patients should maintain a relationship with a primary care provider for routine preventive care, acute illness, emergencies, and medical needs outside the scope of the practice. When a concern requires additional evaluation or specialty care, I will recommend appropriate follow-up.
